The importance of meditation cannot be emphasized enough. All your training will be useless if you cannot control your mind in times of stress and crisis. Martial Arts combined with meditation training is what will enable you to survive and protect others. For this reason, sitting meditation is practiced prior to each class. We encourage our students to make meditation part of their daily life.
Advanced aikido training is meditation in motion. The ultimate goal of your martial arts training at Shobu Aikido is to have a peaceful mind even in the face of violent aggression. Aikido seeks not to add or escalate the violence but to take control of the situation at its inception and bring it to a peaceful resolution.
Sitting meditation must first be practiced. We encourage our students to make meditation part of their daily life. It is practiced in the general class, and special longer meditation classes are offered.
