Shobu Aikido follows traditional training rules which are taught throughout the learning process. It is a small sanctuary away from stress of daily life.
Besides our regular classes we offer weapons training, black belt focused classes and warrior Fridays. For students of all levels.
The importance of meditation cannot be enmphasized enough. Your training will be of no use if you cannot control your mind in times of crisis or stress.
Aikido was created by the founder Morihei Ueshiba (O'Sensei) as a way to resolve conflict with compassion. Aikido uses movements taught to us by nature combined with Japanese Samurai Secrets to take control of conflict at its inception and protect life at its resolution.
Aikido creates a peaceful warrior with a strong body, peaceful mind, and the skills to control, disarm and neutralize attackers. Aikido is a path that will influence and improve your daily life. The dojo will be your oasis to be present, to relax, to face challenges with a centered mind. To develop elegant posture and to learn correct action.
The Shobu Aikido Houston dojo is holding monthly Aikido classes for children 6-12 years old. February classes will be held February 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 4:30 pm to 5:15 pm.
Our classes will focus on self defense techniques and character growth to improve skills in working with any kind of aggression. In Aikido we say Masakatsu Agatsu Katsuhayabi which means "True victory is self victory." Each week we will focus on virtues that are important to Aikido, such as humility, respect and compassion.
The instructors are Karen Vargas, San Dan, and Brian Stephenson, Sho Dan.
*Classes will cost $100 per month. The fee may be paid by cash or check.
Shobu Aikido of Houston provides a direct link to the teaching and mission of the founder, Morihei Ueshiba, O'Sensei. At Shobu Aikido, Ana Arango Sensei promotes O'Sensei's vision as taught to her by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan, a direct disciple and former ushideshi (live in student) of O'Sensei. Ana Arango Sensei's sincere dedication to Aikido's mission has earned her the Ueshiba Juku. A designation awarded by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan to selected senior students and instructors in recognition of their loyalty and dedication to building the ASU and promoting O'Sensei's vision. It declares that they are not only true deshi (direct disciple) of Saotome Sensei and inheritors of his teachings, but are also part of O'Sensei's school and pure lineage as only true Uchideshi of O'Sensei can recognize.
It is Shobu Aikido's sincere mission to bring you the teachings of the founder, O'Sensei through practice, training, lectures, study and meditation.
Accordingly, the school observes the rules and etiquette as delineated by the founder, O'Sensei, Saotome Shihan and Arango Sensei.
The Dojo is designed exclusively for aikido practice and weapons training with your safety in mind. Both the school and the garden employ the elements of Feng Shui to create a traditional Aiki place of practice.
The garden and the school are designed in a traditional Japanese manner, with focus on the elements of Feng Shui.
Our school is affiliated with the ASU organization and our black belts are recognized and certified by Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.
The importance of meditation cannot be emphasized enough. All your training will be of no use if you cannot control your mind in times of stress and crisis. Martial arts and meditation training combined is what will enable you to survive, save and protect others. Sitting meditation is practiced prior to each class. We encourage our students to make meditation part of their daily life habits.
